Scottsdale Overview

Looking for information about Scottsdale? You've come to the right place. This page has lots of useful, up-to-date information about living in Scottsdale, and has many useful links to other sites. The Scottsdale Homes page has more specific information on the types of homes you can find in Scottsdale, and features a variety of communities.

Scottsdale is the premier city in the Phoenix Metroplex. The home of 230,000 people, Scottsdale has been named (in many surveys) as one of the most desirable places to live. If you're looking for a Scottsdale Luxury Home ($1 Million plus), a Scottsdale Home, a Scottsdale Condo, or any type of Scottsdale Real Estate, you've come to the right place.

Scottsdale has just about everything, and it's all world-class: Resorts, Shopping, Restaurants, Golf, Tennis, Art, Theatre, Concerts, and Outdoor Recreational activities.

Do you like to attend major events? How about the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction? (held every February at West World) Or how about the FBR Phoenix Golf Open? (held every January at the TPC in Scottsdale) Or how about the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show (held every February at West World) Or maybe you just want to chill out during a Spring Training Baseball Game? (Scottsdale is the spring home of the San Francisco Giants)

Scottsdale in not just about resort living, recreation, and having fun (although sometimes it feels like it!) Scottsdale is home to many successful companies in growing industries such as Internet-related (Go Daddy), health care (Mayo Clinic), construction, retail (Cold Stone Creamery) and high technology (The SkySong Bio-Technology Innovation Center in South Scottsdale is a joint venture between the City of Scottsdale and Arizona State University.)

The Scottsdale Unified School District (SUSD) is one of the best in the state. Check it out at the SUSD web site, or at the Great Schools web site (where you can check out schools and school districts throughout the state).

Think of Scottsdale as being divided into 3 major sections.

South Scottsdale (south of Thomas Road) features smaller, older homes and condos, many of which are fixer-uppers. This area is conveniently close to freeways and the East Valley cities of Tempe, Mesa, and Chandler. There is a great deal of development going on in South Scottsdale, including SkySong.

Central Scottsdale (the area between Thomas Road and Shea Boulevard) is "where the action is" in Scottsdale. This is where Old Town Scottsdale, the Fifth Avenue Shops, Scottsdale Fashion Square, and the new Scottsdale Waterfront development are located. This is where you can find many of the world-class resorts, restaurants, night clubs, and art galleries. Central Scottsdale features a wide variety of home choices, including many Golf Communities such as Gainey Ranch and McCormick Ranch.

North Scottsdale (north of Shea Boulevard) is the newest part of Scottsdale, and features many world-famous Golf Communities like Troon, Kierland, Grayhawk, and Desert Highlands. This is where you will find many Million Dollar and Multi-Million Dollar Dream Homes, but there are still plenty of affordable homes and condos priced from about $250K. Lots of new restaurants and shopping centers are being built in North Scottsdale, including La Mirada, at the junction of Pima and Pinnacle Peak Roads (Mastro's, my favorite steak house, is located there). And North Scottsdale is just a short drive to Carefree and Cave Creek.
