Peoria / Overview and Homes
Peoria was founded in the 1880s (by people from Peoria, Illinois) and started out as a farming community. But Peoria has changed, and is now a thriving city of 132,000 people located in the far northwest corner of the Valley of the Sun.
If you're looking for a nice place to live, reasonably priced, and close to a large lake, then Peoria may be the place for you. Lake Pleasant, bordering Peoria on the north, is one of the most popular recreational areas in the state. Lake Pleasant has boating, fishing, skiing, camping . . . everything you would expect to find at a world class recreational area.
And even though Peoria is in the northwest corner of the Valley of the Sun, it is still well located. Interstate 17 and the 101 Freeway make access to Glendale and other parts of the Phoenix Metroplex relatively easy. And Peoria is very convenient if you're interested in exploring Northern Arizona (Prescott, Sedona, Flagstaff, the White Mountains, etc).
